McFARLAND SAVE THE DATE

A freelance client came to me after her previous designer failed to deliver what she wanted - a Save the Date design that looked like the poster for an action movie. She needed it done quickly as she'd already lost time on the previous attempt. She knew exactly what she wanted; as soon as I agreed to help, I was provided a reference to emulate, the copy for the layout and a photo of the couple.

To achieve the desired look, several layers were needed - a background with the right lighting, tones and ambiance, an explosion with the right composition and proportions to fit the final size and frame the couple, the happy couple themselves, and the copy which, of course, still needed to be legible.

Each individual photo needed editing, so they could be layered to build the final composition. Then additional color adjustments, hand painting and effects were added to make the individual layers look cohesive. The finished background was then cropped and placed in InDesign for type layout.
