ARTé: HEMUT

ARTé: Hemut gameplay overview
Texas A&M's LIVE Lab provide the concept and initial prototype for Hemut, a digital board and deck-building game covering the art, architecture and culture of Ancient Egypt. Triseum picked up the project to  fully develop and add to the ARTé (Art History) game series. Full development at Triseum began in June and the game had a firm release date of August, giving the team (who was concurrently working on ARTé: Lumière) just over 2 months to finish a viable product.

Given the timeline of the project, pre-production was a quick review of what we received to determine how to scope the project and release on time. We decided to keep the same basic environment concept and layout and optimize any usable assets but we had to rebuild the 3D environment because of licensing restrictions on the provided files. We jumped into production within days of receiving the Lab's files.

Production progressed quickly out of necessity. I kept our scope to the bare minimum, prioritizing stretch goals based on the wishlists of game design and the learning team, in case we had the time to do a little more. I also came up with several contingency plans that would allow us to meet the deadline even if we ran into trouble in high-risk areas of the visual development. Lumière was also reassessed and scoped so we could move artists onto Hemut as soon as reasonable. We successfully delivered Hemut on time in August 2018.

In addition to overseeing art and other creative elements of game production, I was also responsible for establishing the brand and supervising or creating much of the accompanying collateral. This involved the development of the logo, document templates, trailers, marketing, sales and instructional pieces.
